The Winter Collection: What is it?
2021 was a very difficult year in my life. In the midst of the chaos in my life, I was finally able to come back from a long hiatus and created some winter themed designs for my merch store to wrap up the year. It's getting cold outside, so I thought it was time to keep fresh and stay warm with some brand new designs!
As a local New Yorker who grew up going through Queens and Brooklyn, my friends and I tend to state the weather just like this Polar Bear. I wanted to capture the essence of city fashion and city life while also trying to keep in mind that it really is "Brick AF" outside. This design had a couple revisions on the font (which seems to be a common theme on this project) but I really just wanted to focus on making everything cute, warm and cozy to have some cohesion together.
I had never done a penguin design before so the idea behind this one was to make a cute and fat little penguin who still fits the theme of "trying to stay warm in this brutal cold" and this is how he was born. The original design went through a few typographic redesigns but I ended up landing on this bold font with a backdrop to fit with the "theme" of the previous design. I also added hearts cause love makes you feel all warm inside (if that makes any sense).
So for this third design, originally I was going to create a big fat rescue dog as a reward to supporters who bought these designs. Sales haven't gone too well, so I actually went with something very different to make the character stand out a little more. I ended up brainstorming and coming up with this squishy little guy.
His original design had less details but I wanted him to still fit the whole "winter warmth" theme so I designed him a cute sweater and a nice big hat to keep him warm. The typography also went through a few revisions before landing on another fat, bold round font with a shadow backdrop so it really stands out when actually printed on different items sold on my shop.
